Several areas in central Jordan, including the capital Amman, began experiencing rainfall of varying intensity as a prelude to a highly effective and extremely slow-moving cold front, expected to cross central and southern regions after midnight Thursday into early Friday.

According to ArabiaWeather, the impact of the low-pressure system will intensify as the cold front moves through central areas, including Amman, Madaba, and the Jordan Valley. Rainfall is forecast to become very heavy during the late night hours, accompanied by thunderstorms and hail.

Flash flood warnings issued

These conditions raise the risk of significant runoff in valleys and wadis, with a high likelihood of dangerous flash floods forming in the northern and central Jordan Valley. Large water accumulations are also expected, along with potential soil and rock slides in sloped areas.

By early morning and throughout Friday morning, the heaviest rainfall is expected to shift southward, affecting Karak, Tafilah, the southern Jordan Valley, and the Dead Sea region.

Fog and reduced visibility expected

Rain will continue in northern areas, while the focus of heavier precipitation remains over central regions during the morning hours. Weather officials also warned of dense fog forming over high mountainous areas due to low-level cloud cover, which may lead to severely reduced horizontal visibility.

Cold, unsettled conditions persist

Later on Friday, the low-pressure system is expected to gradually move away from the Kingdom. However, cold weather will persist due to moist air currents, with temperatures remaining around three to four degrees Celsius below seasonal averages.

Intermittent rain showers are still possible in parts of the north, central regions, and some southern highlands.

Safety recommendations

Experts urged residents to wear warm clothing, use heating devices safely, and exercise extreme caution while driving in rainy and foggy conditions. They also stressed the importance of staying away from valleys and flood-prone areas and remaining alert to the risk of soil collapses in mountainous and sloped terrain.
