The United Arab Emirates announced it will withdraw its remaining military forces from Yemen, following a sharp escalation within the Arab Coalition and the Yemeni government’s decision to cancel its defense pact with Abu Dhabi.

In a statement, the ministry of defense said the UAE joined the Arab Coalition in 2015 to support Yemen’s internationally recognized government, back international counterterrorism efforts, and help restore security and stability. It noted that Emirati forces made significant sacrifices during the campaign.

The ministry said the UAE officially ended its military presence in Yemen in 2019 after completing agreed missions. Any remaining presence since then was limited to specialized counterterrorism teams operating in coordination with international partners.

Due to recent developments and their potential impact on the safety and effectiveness of counterterrorism missions, the ministry said it has decided, of its own accord, to withdraw the remaining teams. The move will be carried out in coordination with relevant partners to ensure the safety of personnel.

The Defense Ministry said the decision follows a comprehensive assessment of current requirements and aligns with the UAE’s commitments and its role in supporting regional security and stability.
