The Paris public prosecutor’s office announced Friday evening the arrest of a suspect linked to a series of stabbings targeting three women at metro stations across the French capital. The arrest followed an extensive security operation to track the assailant, who initially fled the scene, according to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
Three attacks in half an hour
The attacks occurred in three separate metro stations within a short span of 30 minutes, between 4:15 and 4:30 p.m. GMT, the Paris transport authority (RATP) told AFP. The targeted stations included Opera, Arts et Métiers near the Le Marais district, and Republique.
Victims and investigation
All three women sustained stab wounds of varying severity and were taken to hospitals for treatment.
Authorities successfully tracked and apprehended the suspect following the initial manhunt. The prosecutor’s office is currently questioning the individual to determine the motives behind the attacks, which caused panic among commuters during peak travel hours.
