The Allenby Crossing between Jordan and ‘Israel’ will be re-opened on Wednesday for Gaza-bound aid trucks, nearly three months after it was closed, a Jordanian official told Roya on Tuesday.
An ‘Israeli’ official also said the border will reopen for the first time since late September.
"Following the understandings and a directive of the political echelon, starting tomorrow (Wednesday) the transfer of goods and aid from Jordan to the area of Judea and Samaria and to the Gaza Strip will be permitted through the Allenby Crossing", an ‘Israeli’ official said in a statement Tuesday, using the ‘Israeli’ Biblical term for the West Bank.
"All aid trucks destined for the Gaza Strip will proceed under escort and security, following a thorough security inspection", the official added.
On September 18, a Jordanian citizen driving a humanitarian aid trick headed for the Gaza Strip carried out a shooting and stabbing near the Allenby Crossing between the West Bank and Jordan, the kingdom’s foreign ministry said in a statement at that time.
It resulted in the killing of two ‘Israeli’ soldiers.
‘Israel’ shut down the two crossings - Allenby Crossing (King Hussein Bridge) and the Sheikh Hussein Crossing (Jordan River Bridge) - the very next day of the incident.
