Jordan faces unstable weather with showers, thunderstorms on Saturday

The Jordan Meteorological Department (JMD) has forecast a shift to unstable weather across the Kingdom starting Saturday, with mild daytime temperatures and increasing cloudiness throughout the day.

Light, scattered rain is expected in some areas during daylight hours, with showers becoming more widespread in the evening and overnight. Periods of heavier rain, isolated thunderstorms, and occasional hail are likely. The agency warned that water runoff may occur in low-lying areas and valleys, including the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea region, and Aqaba.

Southeasterly winds will sweep across the country, occasionally strengthening and stirring up dust, particularly in the eastern desert regions.

Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious, highlighting the following hazards:

• Accumulating water in valleys and low-lying areas
• Localized thunderstorms with brief hail
• Reduced visibility in desert areas due to blowing dust
• Strong wind gusts in exposed locations

Temperatures will begin to cool noticeably on Sunday, with intermittent showers possible in southern and eastern regions and limited areas in the north. Rain chances are expected to decrease by nighttime, while winds shift to a moderate westerly direction.

Monday will bring relatively cool conditions across most regions, remaining mild in areas such as the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba. Skies will feature variable cloud cover, accompanied by light to moderate southwesterly winds.

By Tuesday, the highlands will remain cool while lowland areas experience mild weather under partly cloudy skies. Winds are forecast to turn from northeast to northwest during the day.

Temperature highlights for Saturday include:

• Highlands and major cities: upper teens to low 20s °C (East Amman 21 °C, West Amman 19 °C)
• Northern highlands: 16 °C
• Sharah range: 18 °C
• Badia: up to 23 °C
• Central plains: 21 °C
• Low-elevation areas: northern Jordan Valley 26 °C, southern valley 28 °C, Dead Sea 26 °C, Aqaba 27 °C

Overnight lows will fall sharply, with Amman dropping to 8–10 °C and the highlands reaching as low as 6 °C in the Sharah region. The Badia and plains will see temperatures in the upper single digits, while the Jordan Valley, Dead Sea, and Aqaba remain milder at 13–15 °C.
