The incident, captured on live video, appeared to show 'Israeli' soldiers executing two Palestinians after they had clearly surrendered.
The Palestinian Authority identified the men as 26-year-old Mahmoud Qassem Abdallah and 37-year-old Youssef Asasa, whose bodies were taken by Israeli security forces.
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) described the event as an “incident” under review. In a joint statement, the military and police said their forces had entered the area, encircled a structure where the suspects were located, and conducted a surrender procedure that lasted several hours.
After using heavy machinery on the building, the suspects emerged, at which point shots were fired.
“The incident is under review by the commanders on the ground, and will be transferred to the relevant authorities for examination,” the IOF and police added.
The episode has sparked international criticism, with human rights groups condemning the apparent extrajudicial killings and calling for a transparent investigation.
