Jordan’s Foreign Ministry said Thursday it is investigating the deaths of two Jordanian citizens after they were recruited to fight with the Russian Army.
Ministry Confirms Deaths, Warns of Illegal Recruitment
Ministry Spokesperson Fouad Al Majali said the ministry is closely monitoring the "enticement" of Jordanian citizens by external parties for the purpose of unlawful enlistment in the Russian Army.
He added that this constitutes a violation of Jordanian and international law and endangers the lives of citizens.
Al Majali urged citizens to report any attempts to recruit them into the Russian Army and cautioned against engaging with such attempts due to the danger they pose and the legal breach they represent.
Demand to Moscow and Action Against Online Networks
Al Majali explained that the Ministry demanded that Russian authorities cease the recruitment of Jordanians and terminate the enlistment of any Jordanian citizen previously recruited into the Russian Army, noting that the Ministry will take all available measures to stop this process.
The Ministry warned of entities operating via online networks to recruit Jordanians.
It affirmed it is monitoring these groups in coordination with national institutions to take all legal and diplomatic action to halt them and enforce the law, as the enticement and recruitment of Jordanians into a foreign army is considered a gross violation of international law, international obligations, and Jordanian law, which criminalizes enlisting in a foreign military.
