  • The ‘Israeli’ military claimed to have destroyed Hezbollah infrastructure, including launch sites and a weapons storage facility, during air strikes in southern Lebanon.
  • The escalation follows the killing of Hezbollah's military chief last Sunday and comes amid ‘Israeli’ and US accusations that Lebanon is stalling efforts to disarm the group.

The ‘Israeli’ military claimed Thursday it carried out strikes and destroyed infrastructure belonging to Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, as ‘Israel’ escalates its raids against the group it claims is attempting to rearm itself.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported that "Israeli warplanes launched an aerial aggression targeting the regions of Al-Mahmoudiyah and Al-Jarmaq."

Claims of Targeting Launch Sites and Weapons Storage

The ‘Israeli’ military said in a statement that it directed "strikes that targeted and destroyed Hezbollah infrastructure in several areas in southern Lebanon."

Among the locations targeted were "several launch sites... a weapons storage facility, and sites used by Hezbollah to carry out attacks" against the ‘Israeli’ military, according to the statement.

Escalation Amid Stalled Disarmament

The escalation comes one year after a cease-fire agreement was reached between ‘Israel’ and Hezbollah.

Despite the agreement, ‘Israel’ has continued its aggression on Lebanon, stating they target Hezbollah members and infrastructure to halt the rearmament process.

Under a plan approved by the Lebanese government, the Lebanese Army is supposed to dismantle Hezbollah's military infrastructure south of the Litani River by the end of the year, before moving to other areas.

The Lebanese Army says it is executing its plan, but the United States and ‘Israel’ accuse Lebanese authorities of stalling.

Hezbollah has repeatedly and categorically rejected any calls to disarm.

The escalation follows a high-profile attack last Sunday when an ‘Israeli’ air strike on an apartment in Beirut's southern suburbs killed Hezbollah's military chief, Haytham Ali Tabatabai, and several of his assistants.

‘Israeli’ Defense Minister Israel Katz vowed Wednesday that Lebanon would not “see calm” if ‘Israel's’ security was not guaranteed.
