  • The UN Security Council will vote Monday on a US resolution to endorse President Trump's Gaza peace plan and authorize a temporary international stabilization force to disarm the Strip.
  • The US draft is supported by nine regional partners.

The UN Security Council will vote Monday on a resolution to endorse US President Donald Trump's Gaza peace plan, diplomats said.

Last week, the Americans launched negotiations within the 15-member Security Council on a text that would follow up on the ceasefire in the two-year assault on Gaza and endorse Trump's plan.

The United States and several Arab and Muslim-majority nations, including Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, have called for the UN Security Council to swiftly adopt the resolution.

In a statement, the US and its partners, which also included the UAE, Indonesia, Pakistan, and Jordan, expressed their shared support for the American draft.

They voiced hope for its rapid adoption, stating that the plan provides a practical path toward peace and stability for the entire region.

Details of the US Resolution

The US officially launched negotiations on the text last week as a follow-up to the cease-fire in the two-year-long assault on Gaza.

The draft resolution, seen by Agence France-Presse (AFP), welcomes the creation of a Peace Council, which would serve as a transitional governing authority for Gaza and is theoretically chaired by Trump.

Its mandate would last until the end of 2027.

Crucially, the resolution authorizes member states to form a temporary international stabilization force that would work with ‘Israel’, Egypt, and newly trained Palestinian police.

This force is mandated to help secure border areas and disarm the Gaza Strip. Unlike earlier drafts, this resolution does mention the possibility of a future Palestinian state.

Russia Presents Rival Proposal

The joint statement came as Russia circulated a competing draft resolution to UNSC members.

The Russian proposal does not call for the creation of a Peace Council or the immediate deployment of an international force in Gaza.

The Russian draft welcomes the "initiative that led to the cease-fire" but does not mention Trump by name.

It calls on the UN Secretary-General to identify options for implementing the provisions of the peace plan and report back immediately, also addressing the potential for deploying an international stabilization force in Gaza.

While Council members generally seem to support the principles of the peace plan, diplomatic sources indicate several questions remain about the US text.

These include the absence of a Council monitoring mechanism, the role of the Palestinian Authority, and the specific mandate details for ‘Israeli’ security forces.
