President Donald Trump posted a message on his social-media platform warning Jewish voters against supporting New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, saying: “Any Jewish person that votes for Zohran Mamdani, a proven and self-professed JEW HATER, is a stupid person!!!”

In his post, Trump accused Mamdani of animosity toward Jewish people without providing evidence of antisemitic statements by Mamdani. The remark adds to a growing list of aggressive comments by Trump targeting Mamdani’s candidacy.

Trump has repeatedly labelled Mamdani a “communist” or “communist lunatic” and warned that federal funds to New York City would be cut if Mamdani were elected mayor.

In an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, Trump argued that a Mamdani mayoralty would be “wasting the money you’re sending here” and that he would be “hard-pressed” to support the city financially if a “communist” was at its helm.

Trump’s criticism centres largely on Mamdani’s progressive, democratic-socialist platform and his pledge to “Trump-proof” New York City, including curbing cooperation with federal immigration authorities and shifting city policies away from traditional policing.

Despite the post and repeated attacks, there is no publicly documented evidence showing Mamdani referring to Jewish people in derogatory or hateful terms, nor is there substantiation in mainstream media of Mamdani declaring himself a “Jew hater.”

Mamdani’s campaign has stressed his background as a South Asian Muslim immigrant and progressive politician, promoting policies such as a rent freeze, free bus service, and universal child care. He has acknowledged his views on 'Israel'–Palestine, for instance citing 'Israeli' and Jewish scholars critical of the war in Gaza, but has denied supporting calls for violence or hatred toward Jewish communities.

Political analysts say Trump’s aggressive messaging is part of a strategy to frame Mamdani as a threat to the city’s mainstream establishment and to undermine support among moderate and Jewish voters.
