Editor’s note (Nov. 4, 2025):
This article was updated after Film Workers for Palestine confirmed that actor David Corenswet did not sign the pledge to boycott 'Israeli' film institutions. The group clarified that a troll had impersonated Corenswet in correspondence, leading to his name being mistakenly included. His name has since been removed from the list of signatories.

Superman actor David Corenswet was wrongly listed as one of the signatories of a pledge to boycott 'Israeli' film institutions, after a troll impersonated him in communications with the organizers, Film Workers for Palestine (FWFP).

In a statement, FWFP said a person had gone to “great lengths to pretend to be David Corenswet,” and once the deception was uncovered, the actor’s name was promptly removed. The organizers apologized for the error, confirming that Corenswet was never involved in the campaign.

The pledge, organized by Film Workers for Palestine, has been signed by over 5,000 verified film professionals, including Olivia Colman, Mark Ruffalo, Tilda Swinton, Javier Bardem, Yorgos Lanthimos, Susan Sarandon, Carice Van Houten, Liam Cunningham, Joe Alwyn, Miriam Margolyes, and Ava DuVernay.

Signatories have pledged to avoid film festivals, screenings, and collaborations linked to 'Israeli' government-backed institutions, citing opposition to what they describe as “genocide and apartheid” against Palestinians.

“The cultural boycott was significant in South Africa. It will be significant this time,” said screenwriter David Farr, one of the campaign’s supporters.

Film Workers for Palestine emphasized that the initiative targets institutions, not individuals, in line with the principles of the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement.

Despite the impersonation incident, organizers said the pledge remains strong and continues to gain support from film professionals worldwide who advocate for justice in Palestine.
