  • Eight pro-Palestinian protesters were charged with unlawfully disrupting the filming of the movie The Runner, which stars 'Israeli' actress Gal Gadot.
  • The protesters were released on bail under the condition they stay at least 200 meters away from all filming locations.

Eight pro-Palestinian protesters have been charged with disrupting the production of The Runner, an upcoming film starring ‘Israeli’ actress Gal Gadot, leading to a court order barring them from approaching filming locations.

The charges stem from incidents in May, where demonstrators interfered with shooting in central London's Westminster and Camden areas, as well as sites outside the capital.

The accused face allegations under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992.

This law, originally aimed at regulating picket lines during strikes, prohibits actions intended to compel others to abstain from lawful work, such as obstructing access to workplaces.

Context

Prosecutors claim the protesters sought to halt filming through tactics including banging metal saucepan lids, sounding sirens, chanting through megaphones, waving Palestinian flags, and displaying signs with messages like "Trash Gadot not welcome in London" and "Stop starving Gaza."

Many wore traditional Palestinian keffiyehs during the demonstrations, which were shared on social media to rally support.

At Westminster Magistrates' Court last Thursday, the defendants did not enter pleas, and their cases were adjourned until November 18.

All were granted bail with the strict condition that they remain at least 200 meters away from any The Runner filming sites.

This order aims to prevent further interruptions as production continues. The Runner, directed by Kevin Macdonald and produced by Amazon, features Gadot, 40, as a lawyer navigating London to rescue her abducted son based on mysterious instructions. The cast also includes British actor Damian Lewis.

Gal Gadot

Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, has faced backlash from pro-Palestinian groups due to her service in the ‘Israeli’ military and her support for the assault on Gaza and the ensuing genocide.

The protests reportedly left Gadot "scarred," prompting her to consider departing London, though filming has persisted.

Defense solicitor Katie McFadden, representing several of the accused, described the charges as "disproportionate and an unlawful interference" with rights to freedom of assembly and expression under UK law.

She argued the actions were peaceful protests in public spaces and vowed to defend the cases vigorously.
