His Majesty King Abdullah II will inaugurate the second ordinary session of the Twentieth Parliament, which includes both the Senate and the House of Representatives, on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

The King is scheduled to deliver the Speech from the Throne, marking the official start of the new parliamentary session.

Following the Royal address, the Senate will convene to select a committee responsible for drafting the official response to the speech. Meanwhile, the House of Representatives will meet under the chairmanship of its most senior member to elect the members of its Permanent Office, including the Speaker, two Deputy Speakers, and two Assistants.

Recent amendments to the House’s bylaws ensure gender representation in the Permanent Office. Article 7(B) states that if no woman is elected as Speaker or Deputy Speaker, the right to nominate one of the two Assistant positions will be reserved for female Deputies, Jordan News Agency (Petra) reported.

The House will also elect a committee to draft its official response to the Royal Speech, which must be approved and submitted to the King within 14 days. In addition, the House is expected to proceed with the election of its 20 standing parliamentary committees.

A Royal Decree had previously postponed the ordinary session until today, with a separate decree formally calling Parliament to convene for this session.

King Abdullah II pledges Jordan’s support for Gaza, emphasizes steadfastness and reforms

In his Speech from the Throne, His Majesty King Abdullah II addressed the ongoing crises in the region, stating, “Today, we stand witness to the tragedy endured by our brothers and sisters in Gaza, who continue to persevere. To them we say: We stand with you as brothers, supporting you with all that we can.”

The King added, “We will also not accept the continuation of violations in the West Bank. The stance of Jordanians is firm and unyielding, just like their nation. And Jordan will continue, with honour and integrity, its historical role of safeguarding Jerusalem’s Muslim and Christian holy sites, under the Hashemite Custodianship.”

Reflecting on the region’s challenges, he said, “Over the decades, our region and the world have faced wars, conflicts, and economic crises. Crises have changed, but Jordan remains strong, built on a heritage of dignity and honor, protected by a proud Arab army descended from heroes who have always defended our land.”

Highlighting Jordanian youth and national resilience, the King said, “Whatever trials may come, know this: Here stand the men who walk in the footsteps of King Hussein—and they are a force to be reckoned with. From this sacred soil was born the spirit of valour, the spirit of the proud youth of Jordan—among them my son and your son, Al Hussein—united in their service as soldiers of this nation.”

On domestic priorities, he stressed, “We have made significant progress in the reforms we pledged, but much remains to be done, requiring extraordinary effort. This Parliament has the responsibility to follow up on political modernization and strengthen party and parliamentary work dedicated solely to serving the nation.”

He added, “We cannot afford delays or complacency. We must continue developing the public sector so citizens feel tangible improvements in services, reform our education system to meet modern demands, and continue upgrading healthcare and transport sectors for greater efficiency and quality of life.”

His Majesty King Abdullah II, in his Speech from the Throne, addressed the Jordanian people, saying: “I speak to you and through your esteemed Parliament to all Jordanians, my people who are close to me, the strength and pride of Jordan.”

“Some may ask how the King feels, does the King worry?” he said. “Yes, the King worries, but he fears none but God. And he fears nothing when he has a Jordanian behind him. That, praise be to God, is the greatest strength a leader can have.”

The King added, “The Jordanian is the protector of the homeland, the one who opens his door to help the weak and answer the call of those in need. The Jordanian who learns and teaches, who plants and feeds, who excels and raises our heads high among nations.”
