  • Prominent Jewish leaders and cultural figures call on UN and governments to sanction 'Israel'.
  • Over 450 signatories accuse 'Israel' of committing “unconscionable” acts amounting to genocide in Gaza.
  • The open letter demands accountability for actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

A group of prominent Jewish leaders and cultural figures worldwide is calling on the United Nations and international governments to impose sanctions on 'Israel', accusing the country of committing “unconscionable” acts amounting to genocide in Gaza.

The open letter, released as EU leaders meet in Brussels, is signed by more than 450 individuals, including former 'Israeli' officials, authors, filmmakers, and intellectuals. The letter calls for accountability over 'Israel’s' actions in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem.

“We have not forgotten that so many of the laws, charters, and conventions established to safeguard and protect all human life were created in response to the Holocaust,” the letter states. “Those safeguards have been relentlessly violated by Israel.”

Among the signatories are former 'Israeli' Knesset speaker Avraham Burg, peace negotiator Daniel Levy, Oscar-winning filmmaker Jonathan Glazer, Pulitzer Prize winner Benjamin Moser, and actors Wallace Shawn, Ilana Glazer, and Hannah Einbinder. Canadian author Naomi Klein and British writer Michael Rosen also signed the letter.

The group urges world leaders to uphold rulings from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the International Criminal Court (ICC), halt arms transfers to 'Israel', impose targeted sanctions, ensure humanitarian aid to Gaza, and reject claims of antisemitism against advocates for peace.

“We bow our heads in immeasurable sorrow as the evidence accumulates that Israel’s actions will be judged to have met the legal definition of genocide,” the letter reads.

Additional signatories include Israeli conductor Ilan Volkov, playwright V (formerly Eve Ensler), comedian Eric André, novelist Damon Galgut, journalist Yuval Abraham, Tony winner Toby Marlow, and philosopher Omri Boehm.

“Our solidarity with Palestinians is not a betrayal of Judaism, then, but a fulfillment of it,” the letter states. “When our sages taught that to destroy one life is to destroy an entire world, they did not carve exceptions for Palestinians. We shall not rest until this ceasefire carries forward into an end of occupation and apartheid.”

The letter criticizes the ceasefire for failing to address conditions in the West Bank, where settler violence continues. UN reports indicate over 3,200 Palestinians have been injured this year, with 71 settler attacks documented in a single week of October. In one incident, a 55-year-old woman was hospitalized after being attacked by a masked settler while picking olives.
