University of Jordan expels 21 students over campus unrest
The University of Jordan (UJ) on Monday expelled 21 students, effective immediately, based on the university’s student disciplinary regulations.
The university said in a statement that “the decision was made after confirming the students' involvement in recent campus incidents that led to a disruption of public order and the obstruction of the educational process”
It added that investigations are not yet complete and remain ongoing with other students suspected of involvement or participation in the unrest.
Last week, a massive brawl broke out on the university campus, after which the North Amman Prosecutor General ordered the detention of 50 people
The incident resulted in seven injuries.
The prosecutor charged the 50 detained individuals with offenses including rioting causing damage, destruction of university property, carrying sharp objects, unlawful assembly, and assault.
According to a statement by the police, the brawl began after an exchange of insults between a group of students, quickly escalating into physical altercations and the use of sharp objects. University security intervened immediately to break up the fight.
