Trump emphasizes Hamas compliance for Gaza ceasefire
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the ceasefire in Gaza is contingent on full compliance by Hamas, warning that 'Israeli' forces could resume fighting “at a word” if the group fails to adhere to the agreement.
At the same time, Trump acknowledged a positive role Hamas is currently playing in maintaining security within the Gaza Strip.
In an interview with CNN, Trump positioned himself as a key guarantor of the agreement, sending a clear message to Hamas, “The army could resume fighting in Gaza at a word from me if Hamas does not comply with the ceasefire agreement.”
He added, emphasizing his authority, “I will consider allowing Netanyahu to resume military operations if Hamas refuses to abide by the ceasefire.”
Trump also praised Hamas for beginning to enforce security on the ground, saying, “Hamas is currently intervening and eliminating violent gangs."
He stressed that achieving the first phase of the agreement was of utmost importance, describing the release of captives from Gaza as “extremely critical.”
These warnings come just two days after the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit, which witnessed the signing of a comprehensive document to end the war.
The first stages of implementing the agreement have already begun, including prisoner exchanges and the flow of aid, but several contentious issues remain unresolved.
Through these statements, Trump positions himself as the ultimate authority on the agreement’s success, emphasizing that the continuation of peace depends on full implementation of all agreed-upon provisions.
