Italy’s national football team claimed a commanding 3-0 victory over 'Israel' on Tuesday evening at Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, boosting their position in Group 9 of the European qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

The win moves the Azzurri closer to securing a playoff spot, while the atmosphere outside the stadium reflected broader political tensions, with hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathering nearby.

- First half: Italy breaks deadlock at the last minute -

Despite controlling possession throughout the first half, Italy struggled to create clear scoring opportunities against 'Israel’s' organized defense. As the half drew to a close, Italy earned a penalty following a foul inside the box. Forward Mateo Retegui confidently converted the spot-kick in the second minute of stoppage time, giving Italy a crucial 1-0 lead heading into halftime.

- Second half: Retegui and Mancini seal the victory -

Italy emerged from the break with more freedom and authority on the field. Retegui scored his second goal in the 74th minute, finishing a well-structured team attack with a powerful strike inside the penalty area. Before the match ended, defender Gianluca Mancini added a third goal in the third minute of stoppage time, connecting with a precise cross from Federico Dimarco and putting the game beyond 'Israel’s' reach.

- Off the field: Demonstrations and tight security -

Outside the stadium, the match was marked by political activism. Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered early, waving flags and chanting slogans calling for Palestinian freedom.

Italian authorities stepped up security measures, deploying troops and special forces.

The high-stakes match comes after weeks of demonstrations across Italy, with protesters calling for 'Israel’s' suspension from international sports. Thousands gathered in Udine ahead of the game, chanting against 'Israel’s' participation.

Security officials have rolled out a heavy operation that includes army units, counterterrorism police, rooftop snipers, helicopters, and surveillance drones.
