Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton has called on the world to maintain its focus and support for Palestinians following the Gaza ceasefire agreement announced earlier Thursday.

In a series of Instagram stories shared with over 41 million followers, Hamilton described the ceasefire as “an important day” and “the first step of a deal to bring hostages home and return peace to Palestine.”

He wrote, “Like many of you, there have been times I have felt totally powerless about the tragedy unfolding in Gaza, and this is a day I wasn’t sure would come. Now, for the first time in a long time, Palestinians can allow themselves hope again.”

However, Hamilton stressed that the ceasefire came too late for the tens of thousands who lost their lives during the war. “We can’t forget that this deal has come too late for the 67,000 people who have died in Gaza, including 20,000 innocent children,” he said. “We won’t forget them, or the suffering of the survivors.”

He went on to describe the agreement as “an incredible first step to peace,” while warning that “it will take hard work and the support of everyone around the world to help Palestinians as they rebuild their lives after the suffering of the past few years.”

In his final message, Hamilton expressed optimism and gratitude for those who continued to believe peace was possible. “I am so full of hope for the future and grateful to everyone who kept believing that this would be possible,” he said. “But there is still work to do… The eyes of the world must stay on Gaza.”

Hamilton’s comments were widely shared online, earning praise from fans and humanitarian advocates for his continued advocacy on global justice and human rights issues.
