Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi reaffirmed the crucial importance of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) continuing its operations in the Gaza Strip, stressing that the agency “must remain in Gaza, as it knows how to rebuild schools and clinics and how to engage with the local population, who trust it.”
Speaking at a joint press conference with Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, European Union and Cooperation, and UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, Safadi underscored the agency’s vital role and urged the international community to support it.
“We must support UNRWA if we are committed to our humanitarian values and the UN Charter,” he said. “No one can help the Palestinian people the way UNRWA does.”
Safadi highlighted the significant sacrifices made by the agency, noting that “hundreds of its staff members have been killed, yet it has continued to stand firm and strive to deliver aid to the people of Gaza.”
