Arab, Muslim leaders hold emergency talks after ‘Israel's’ attack on Qatar
An emergency Arab-Islamic summit is set to take place in Doha today, Monday, to discuss a response to last week's unprecedented ‘Israeli’ attack on Hamas officials within Qatar.
The meeting comes amid broad international condemnation of the strike on the Gulf country that has served as a mediator and historically remained outside direct regional conflicts.
Foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic countries held a preparatory meeting in Doha on Sunday to discuss a draft statement for the summit.
According to a draft, the participating nations will affirm that "the brutal Israeli aggression on the sister state of Qatar, and the continuation of aggressive Israeli practices... undermine the chances of achieving peace and peaceful coexistence in the region and threaten all that has been achieved on the path to establishing normal relations with Israel, including existing and future agreements."
The draft statement also refers to "affirming the concept of collective security and common destiny... and the necessity of aligning and confronting common challenges and threats."
The summit places Qatar, which has played a prominent role in mediating between ‘Israel’ and Hamas, at a critical political crossroads regarding the future of its role in the Palestinian issue.
The country has hosted indirect negotiations that have failed to reach a permanent solution, with the exception of two temporary truces.
Arab-Islamic bloc issues final statement at Doha emergency meeting
Arab and Islamic leaders concluded an emergency summit in Doha on Monday with a sweeping declaration condemning 'Israel’s' strike on the Qatari capital earlier this month, calling it a “flagrant violation of sovereignty” and a grave threat to regional and international security.
The joint meeting, hosted by Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, brought together heads of state and government from the League of Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). Leaders pledged “absolute and unwavering solidarity” with Qatar following the September 9 attack, which struck a residential neighborhood in Doha, damaging schools, nurseries, and housing for international mediation delegations. One Qatari citizen was killed, and several civilians were injured.
In their final communiqué, the leaders held 'Israel' fully responsible, warning that striking a neutral state mediating between warring parties in Gaza represented a dangerous escalation that undermines peace efforts.
“Such aggression against a neutral site for mediation not only violates Qatar’s sovereignty but also undermines international mediation and peace-making efforts,” the statement said.
The summit emphasized that the attack on Qatar should be viewed as an attack on all Arab and Islamic nations, pledging to support any measures Doha takes to safeguard its sovereignty and citizens. Leaders also condemned Israel’s broader policies, citing what they called “acts of genocide, ethnic cleansing, starvation, and blockade”, and warned that continued impunity had emboldened Israeli aggressions across the region.
The gathering reiterated support for a Palestinian state based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital and reaffirmed the Hashemite custodianship over holy sites in Jerusalem. Leaders also backed reconstruction plans for Gaza and urged international donors to contribute at a planned Cairo conference once a ceasefire is reached.
The communiqué rejected any attempt to justify the attack on Qatar and dismissed 'Israeli' threats against other Arab and Islamic states as dangerous provocations. It called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take concrete steps to hold 'Israel' accountable and to enforce a timetable for ending the occupation of Palestinian territories.
The summit closed with gratitude to Qatar for hosting the meeting and for what leaders described as its “civilized and responsible stance” in the aftermath of the strike. The declaration underscored that any aggression against one state is aggression against all, cementing a unified Arab-Islamic position against the latest escalation.
Syrian president voices support for Qatar after 'Israeli' attack
Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa expressed solidarity with Qatar against what he called “brutal aggression.”
He also condemned the ongoing attacks on Gaza and said that 'Israel' has continued its aggression against Syria for the past nine months.
Sharaa warned that targeting mediators sets a dangerous and unprecedented precedent for the region.
Palestinian president rejects any violation of Qatar’s sovereignty
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Monday said that Palestine “will never accept any violation” of the sovereignty of Qatar or any other Arab state.
He strongly condemned 'Israel’s' attack on Qatar and called on the international community to hold 'Israel' accountable.
Abbas urged for a decisive Arab and Islamic stance, along with intervention from the United States, to stop what he described as the “rogue Israeli government.”
He also expressed gratitude to both Qatar and Egypt for their ongoing efforts.
Erdoğan urges joint response after 'Israeli' strike on Qatar
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Monday condemned what he described as 'Israel’s' aggression against Qatar, calling it an attack on a state that has acted as a mediator in pursuit of peace.
He expressed hope that the summit’s decisions would be translated into a written declaration addressed to the entire international community.
Erdoğan warned that 'Israel’s' escalating aggression now poses a “direct threat” to the region.
He also criticized 'Israeli' politicians for what he called the repeated promotion of “illusions” about the so-called concept of a “Greater Israel.”
Sisi warns of 'Israeli' escalation, condemns attack on Qatar
Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Monday that the regional summit is convening amid “grave challenges,” warning that 'Israel' seeks to turn the Middle East into an “open arena for aggression.”
In his remarks, Sisi condemned what he described as a “heinous attack” on Qatari territory, calling it a serious violation of international law and a dangerous precedent.
He further cautioned that “Israel’s reckless conduct” risks expanding the scope of conflict and undermining stability across the region.
The Egyptian president also strongly denounced the 'Israeli' strike that targeted a state engaged in mediation efforts, stressing that such actions escalate tensions rather than advance peace.
Our response must be clear, firm, and deterrent, says King Abdullah II
King Abdullah II of Jordan delivered Jordan’s statement at the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, convened to address the recent 'Israeli' attack on Qatar.
In his speech, the King expressed Jordan’s full support for Qatar, assuring Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani that Jordan stands with the Qatari people and government in protecting their security, stability, and sovereignty. “Qatar’s security is our security, and its stability is our stability,” he said, underlining the depth of Jordan’s commitment.
The King strongly condemned the 'Israeli' strike on Doha, noting it comes two years after the start of 'Israel’s' brutal war on Gaza, a period during which Israel has repeatedly violated international law and human values. He warned that Israel’s ongoing illegal actions in the West Bank undermine the two-state solution and diminish prospects for a just and lasting peace.
Highlighting regional implications, King Abdullah pointed out that 'Israel' continues to threaten the security of Lebanon and Syria, and now has extended its aggression to Qatar’s sovereignty and safety. He criticized the 'Israeli' government for overstepping international norms, emphasizing that it continues to act above the law because the international community has allowed it to do so.
The King called on the Arab and Islamic world to reassess all mechanisms of collective action to confront the dangers posed by 'Israel’s' extremist policies. He urged the summit to issue practical decisions that would provide a clear, decisive, and deterrent response to Israeli aggression.
“The attack on Qatar proves that the Israeli threat knows no boundaries. Our response must be clear, firm, and deterrent,” King Abdullah concluded, stressing the need for unity and coordinated action among Arab and Islamic nations.
‘Israeli’ attack on Qatar crosses all lines, says Arab League chief
Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, strongly condemned 'Israel’s' recent attack on Qatari territory, describing it as an unprecedented violation of sovereignty and a breach of basic humanitarian principles.
Speaking about the incident targeting mediators and negotiators, Aboul Gheit labeled the strike as “cowardly and despicable”, emphasizing that it crosses all moral and legal boundaries.
“Our message to the world is clear: enough silence on the rogue government of Israel,” he said, calling for international accountability and a stronger response to 'Israeli' aggression.
Aboul Gheit warned that the crimes committed by 'Israel' against mediators and civilian populations will not be forgotten, asserting that these actions undermine peace efforts in the region and violate international norms.
Qatari Emir opens emergency Arab-Islamic summit, condemns “Israeli” strike on Doha
The Emir of Qatar on Monday officially opened the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, convened in response to the recent “Israeli” attack on the Qatari capital, which targeted a residence housing families of Hamas leaders and members of its negotiating delegation.
In his opening address, the Emir denounced the strike as a “treacherous and cowardly act”, saying that the attack struck not only his country’s sovereignty but also the principles of mediation and diplomacy.
“Doha was subjected to a treacherous assault that targeted a residence where Hamas leaders and their negotiating team were staying,” the Emir said, stressing that Qatar has served as a mediator for two years in efforts to halt the ongoing war in Gaza.
He accused “Israel” of waging a war that has escalated into “genocide” against the Palestinian people. “When the treacherous strike occurred, Hamas leaders were studying a US proposal that had been conveyed to them through Qatar and Egypt,” he revealed, questioning: “If ‘Israel’ intends to assassinate the political leadership of Hamas, then why does it negotiate with them?”
The Emir went on to condemn the attack on Doha as “reckless, blatant, and cowardly,” asserting that it undermines regional stability and exposes the contradictions in “Israel’s” approach to both diplomacy and warfare.
The summit, which gathers leaders from across the Arab and Islamic world, is expected to issue a unified position on the assault against Qatar and the ongoing war in Gaza, with calls for stronger collective measures to confront “Israeli” aggression.
