Japan actively considering recognizing Palestine
Japan’s government has reaffirmed its careful approach toward recognizing Palestine as a state, following announcements from several countries signaling their intentions to do so.
Speaking at a press conference, Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi said, “From the perspective of promoting progress in peace, we will continue to conduct comprehensive consideration regarding the recognition of Palestine as a state, including the appropriate timing and form of such recognition.”
Hayashi highlighted Japan’s long-standing support for a two-state solution. “We have understood the Palestinian people's desire to establish an independent state and have supported their efforts towards that end,” he said. “From this perspective, we are closely monitoring the situation and international discussions surrounding Palestine with great interest.”
Countries including the UK, France, Canada, Australia, and Belgium pledged to formally recognize Palestine at the upcoming UN General Assembly meeting in New York later this month.
