“Stop the genocide in Gaza”: Turkey's Fenerbahçe fans send global message

During a UEFA Champions League playoff match against Portugal’s Benfica in Lisbon on August 20, 2025, Fenerbahçe supporters made a powerful statement of solidarity with Palestinians.

Fans unfurled large Palestinian flags and donned keffiyehs, while displaying a massive banner that read, “Stop the genocide in Gaza… Free Palestine.” The display occurred during the match at Estádio da Luz.

This is not the first time Turkish football fans have expressed solidarity with Palestine. Protests against 'Israel’s' actions in Gaza have been a recurring theme at matches since the genocide started in October 2023. Supporters of other major Turkish clubs, such as Galatasaray, have staged similar demonstrations during European fixtures last season.
