Arab League chief condemns 'Israeli' plan to reoccupy Gaza
Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned the approval by the 'Israeli' mini-Cabinet of a plan to reoccupy the Gaza Strip, place it under Tel Aviv’s control, and displace residents of Gaza City, forcing most of the enclave’s population into a small area in its south.
The official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, Jamal Rushdi, quoted Aboul Gheit as saying that the Arab League has repeatedly warned against giving 'Israel' free rein to wage what he described as its “criminal, insane war” against the Palestinian people, with the aim of eliminating their cause and eradicating them as a national group.
The Secretary-General stressed that it is time for the international community to take a firm stance to stop this “bloody series of events.”
Aboul Gheit considered the plan a true reflection of 'Israel’s' intentions and objectives since the start of the war, namely to fully reoccupy the Strip and expel as many of its residents as possible outside its borders, a move the Arab side rejects entirely and unequivocally, and one that he said is also rejected and condemned by the entire world.
Rushdi stressed that the 'Israeli' government has become oblivious to the level of isolation it faces internationally due to persisting in what he described as a “genocidal war” for nearly two years, adding that members of the 'Israeli' government are driven by extreme ideologies or narrow self-interests.
