VIDEO: Florida university bars student for confronting peer wearing “IDF” shirt
Florida State University (FSU) has prohibited a student from returning to campus following a widely circulated video depicting alleged antisemitic harassment of a Jewish student.
The incident, which occurred on FSU's campus, has triggered immediate investigations by university authorities and federal agencies,
The video shows a female student making a hand gesture and verbally assaulting a male student wearing an “Israel Defense Forces (IDF)” T-shirt, stating, "F--- Israel. Free Palestine."
The footage also appears to show the woman shoving the man's camera phone, but she told the police she didn’t shove him.
Police identified the woman as Eden Deckerhoff after reviewing the video. She has been charged with misdemeanor battery and not a hate crime. Her arraignment is set for September 19, according to US media reports.
Deckerhoff has been barred from campus. The university issued a strong statement condemning "antisemitism in all forms" and affirming its commitment to protecting Jewish students, offering immediate support services to the victim.
The incident has drawn high-level condemnation. US Attorney General Pam Bondi praised FSU President Richard McCullough's “leadership and prompt action,” stating, "Antisemitism will not be tolerated in Florida, or anywhere else."
Bondi also confirmed that the US Department of Justice's Civil Rights Division and a US Attorney are "looking into the matter".
Congressman Randy Fine (R-Fla.) further stated on X that the student "has been suspended until an expulsion hearing and has been trespassed from campus".
