Hamas denies disarmament claims

Hamas has denied recent media reports suggesting the group is prepared to disarm, allegedly based on statements by US envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

In an official statement, Hamas asserted that the weapons of the resistance are a legitimate national and legal right as long as the occupation continues, adding that this right is upheld by international conventions and norms.

The movement emphasized that disarmament will not be considered unless the full rights of the Palestinian people are restored, chief among them the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
