US repatriates minor from Syrian displacement camp

The US State Department announced on Tuesday that it has repatriated an American minor from a displacement camp in northeastern Syria to reunite with their family, according to Reuters.

In a statement, the department said, “Approximately 30,000 individuals from over 70 countries remain in two displacement camps in northeast Syria, the majority of them children under the age of 12. They deserve a chance to live outside the camps.”

The US reiterated that the only lasting solution to the crisis in the camps is for countries of origin to repatriate their nationals.
