John Michael "Ozzy" Osbourne, the vocalist of Black Sabbath, died on Tuesday, July 22, at the age of 76.

His family confirmed his passing in a statement, noting he was "with his family and surrounded by love."

Osbourne, born in Aston, Birmingham, in 1948, co-founded Black Sabbath in 1967. The band's initial releases, including their 1969 debut album Black Sabbath and the subsequent album Paranoid, are widely recognized as foundational works in the heavy metal genre.

His death occurred weeks after he performed at what was billed as his final live show, the "Back To The Beginning" concert, held on July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham. The event featured appearances by other acts, including Metallica and Guns N' Roses. Osbourne performed from a throne on stage, addressing fans.

In 2020, Osbourne publicly disclosed that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2003. He had experienced various health issues in recent years, including complications from a fall in 2019 that necessitated spinal surgeries.

Beyond his career with Black Sabbath, Osbourne also pursued a solo career. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame twice, once as a member of Black Sabbath in 2006 and again as a solo artist in 2024.

Tributes have been extended by musicians and organizations following the news of his death.
