Minister of Agriculture Eng. Khaled Hneifat on Tuesday announced a halt to issuing licenses for importing live sheep from Syria, effective the beginning of July.
In a press statement, Hneifat said that this "temporary" decision primarily aims to protect local production, support Jordanian livestock breeders, and restore balance to the market.
The minister explained that the decision comes amid an abundance of domestic sheep production during this period, allowing breeders to market their products at fair prices.
