Germany arrests Bosnian over suspected terror plot funding

German police announced Wednesday the arrest of a 27-year-old Bosnian man in western Germany as part of an ongoing investigation into the suspected financing of an Islamist terror attack.

The suspect was detained during a pre-dawn raid carried out by a special operations unit in the cities of Essen and Dortmund, according to a joint statement by local police and prosecutors. No further details were immediately provided about the alleged attack plot, as the investigation remains ongoing.

According to Bild newspaper, the suspect is believed to have received military training.

Police also conducted additional searches at the homes of several individuals considered witnesses in the case.

The investigation reportedly began as a probe into an organized fraud scheme but later revealed that the funds raised were allegedly intended to finance an Islamist-motivated terrorist attack.

Authorities have not disclosed whether any weapons or materials related to the planned attack were recovered during the raids.
