"Hell of a week": Trump speaks to press about ‘Iran vs Israel’ conflict
US President Donald Trump said Saturday that Iran is seeking to hold talks with Washington following what he described as a devastating US strike on Iranian nuclear sites.
Speaking to press, Trump said: “Iran wants to hold a meeting with us. Their sites were destroyed, despite all the fake news about our pilots’ performance.”
Trump added that he does not believe Iran will resume its nuclear weapons program anytime soon. “I’ve said for years that Iran must never be allowed to possess a nuclear weapon, and that is the last thing they are thinking about today,” he stated.
He also rejected reports that Iranian nuclear sites had been evacuated ahead of the American attack. “There was no evacuation before the strikes,” Trump said.
The comments come in the aftermath of a major military escalation between Iran and ‘Israel’, as well as the US, which Trump called "has been a hell of a week", during which American bombers reportedly targeted multiple Iranian nuclear facilities.
While Iran has downplayed the impact of the attacks, US officials, including Trump, have insisted that the strikes caused significant damage.
