Iran arrests 26 for collaborating with “Israel”
Iranian media reported Wednesday evening that at least 26 people were arrested in the southwestern province of Khuzestan on charges of collaborating with “Israel”, just two days after a ceasefire ended a 12-day war.
According to the semi-official Fars News Agency, intelligence units affiliated with Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) detained the suspects for allegedly acting as “agents or unintentional participants in the recent war imposed by the Zionist regime.”
A statement released by IRGC intelligence claimed that “most of the detainees confessed to actions involving security-related activities, inciting public unrest, and acts of sabotage.”
The arrests come in the wake of remarks by “Israeli” Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir, who revealed that “ground commando units” had operated inside Iran during the conflict. “
Our forces worked covertly deep within enemy territory,” he said earlier this week.
Iran frequently announces arrests and even executions of individuals accused of espionage for foreign intelligence agencies, including Mossad.
On Sunday, Iranian authorities pledged to expedite espionage-related trials following”Israel’s” unprecedented June 13 strike, which Tehran believes was guided by precise intelligence.
Judiciary chief Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Eje'i said on state TV, “Cases involving national security, particularly those supporting the Zionist regime or acting as its fifth column, will be handled swiftly.”
Khuzestan, which borders Iraq, is Iran’s main oil-producing region and was reportedly targeted multiple times during the recent conflict due to “military infrastructure” located there.
