The announcement comes hours after Cypriot authorities confirmed the arrest of a British national on suspicion of terrorism and espionage.
Local media reported the suspect had been monitoring a British RAF base in Akrotiri and a Cypriot military base since mid-April.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the suspect is linked to the alleged Iranian plot.
