Speaking during a council meeting to discuss regulations stemming from the newly enacted General Electricity Law No. 10 of 2025, Kharabsheh acknowledged the growing geopolitical challenges facing the region.

He emphasized that Jordan has activated contingency plans to ensure uninterrupted power generation, noting the critical role local energy sources have played in maintaining grid reliability.

Jordan typically imports around 100 million cubic feet of natural gas daily from Egypt.

However, due to the current crisis, the government is shouldering additional costs to sustain the power supply, according to Kharabsheh.

He added that the Kingdom is also bolstering its strategic reserves of diesel and other fuel derivatives to support electricity generation, and that power plants are equipped to switch to alternative fuels without compromising efficiency.
