An Air India flight en route from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick was reportedly involved in an incident shortly after takeoff on Thursday, June 12, 2025. The airline confirmed the situation in a brief statement but offered limited details.

“Flight AI171, operating Ahmedabad–London Gatwick, was involved in an incident today,” an Air India spokesperson said on X. “At this moment, we are ascertaining the details and will share further updates at the earliest.”

The flight, identified as a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner capable of carrying over 200 passengers, was reportedly seen emitting thick black smoke near Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.

Local fire service officials confirmed to Agence France-Presse that an aircraft had crashed but did not specify the flight or provide casualty information.

Emergency crews were seen rushing to the scene, as eyewitnesses reported chaos near the airport.
