VIDEO: Lebanon condemns attack on UNIFIL officer after viral slapping video

The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong condemnation following a viral video showing a Lebanese man slapping a United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) officer in southern Lebanon.

The incident, which has sparked widespread reactions online, prompted the ministry to demand accountability for the attacker, whose actions were deemed a violation of both Lebanese and international laws.

In an official statement, the ministry stressed "the necessity of not compromising the safety and security of [UNIFIL] personnel and vehicles," calling for the perpetrators to face justice.

The ministry reaffirmed "Lebanon’s commitment to the role of these forces, its support for their work, mandate, and tasks in accordance with UN Security Council Resolution 1701, to assist in maintaining peace and security in southern Lebanon."

Lebanese authorities have not yet released details about the identity of the assailant or the circumstances leading to the incident.
