Elon Musk took to X late Thursday in a series of pointed posts that signaled a sharp and public break with US President Donald Trump, just hours after Trump expressed disappointment over Musk’s criticism of a major federal policy bill.

In a string of carefully curated tweets, the Tesla and SpaceX CEO reposted several of Trump’s past statements, some dating back to 2012 and 2016, accompanied by subtle commentary and sharp rebukes. The move appeared to underscore Musk’s growing frustration with the direction of Trump’s economic agenda and marked one of the most public rifts between the two high-profile figures to date.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate.” Musk tweeted. "Such ingratitude."

He also referenced multiple of Trump's old posts from 2011, stating, "Where is this guy today??"

The shift in tone followed Trump’s comments from the Oval Office earlier in the day, where he addressed Musk’s strong opposition to the sweeping economic and infrastructure bill, which the tech entrepreneur previously called an “abomination.”

“Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. I was surprised,” Trump told reporters.
While Trump declined to detail any recent private conversations with Musk, the statement marked a clear cooling of ties between the two men—once seen as aligned on issues like deregulation and technological innovation.

Musk, who previously served on a White House advisory council during Trump’s first term before resigning over climate policy decisions, has in recent months become more vocal about his concerns with government overreach and inefficiency.
