Trump says Putin has ‘gone crazy’, blames Zelenskyy, Biden for Ukraine war
US President Donald Trump blamed Biden, Zelenskyy, and Putin for the Ukraine war on Truth Social Monday, saying it wouldn’t have happened if he were president.
In a post shared on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he “always had a very good relationship with Vladimir Putin,” but declared that “something has happened to him,” adding, “He has gone absolutely CRAZY!” Trump accused the Russian leader of “needlessly killing a lot of people,” including civilians, by launching missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities “for no reason whatsoever.”
Trump reiterated a claim he has made repeatedly since the war began in February 2022: that the invasion would not have occurred if he were still in office. He also repeated a long-held assertion that Putin wants control of all of Ukraine, not just eastern regions — a position Trump said now appears to be correct. “But if he does, it will lead to the downfall of Russia!” Trump warned.
The president also turned his criticism toward Zelenskyy, saying the Ukrainian leader is “doing his Country no favors by talking the way he does,” and that “everything out of his mouth causes problems.” Trump did not specify which remarks he was referring to, but called for Zelenskyy to change his tone, saying, “I don’t like it, and it better stop.”
Trump added that the war “is Zelenskyy’s, Putin’s, and Biden’s War — not ‘Trump’s,’” and positioned himself as the one “helping to put out the big and ugly fires” caused by what he described as “Gross Incompetence and Hatred.”
Trump’s comments come amid continued Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and a stalled counteroffensive by Kyiv.
The war, now in its third year, has become a defining issue in global geopolitics and US foreign policy — and is expected to be a flashpoint in the 2024 presidential campaign as Trump seeks a return to the White House.
The Biden administration has strongly backed Ukraine, with military and economic support, while warning against Putin’s wider ambitions in the region.
