Jordan marks 79th Independence Day with nationwide celebrations
Jordanians across the Kingdom celebrated the 79th Independence Day on Sunday with patriotic fervor, marking nearly eight decades since the country gained full sovereignty in 1946.
Streets across Amman and other cities were lined with flags, with families and youth preparing for a day full of national pride and festivities.
Government buildings, historical sites, and main roads are dressed in red, white, green, and black — the colors of the Jordanian flag — as events kick off nationwide. This year’s celebrations are expected to feature cultural performances, air shows, and a special ceremony attended by the Royal Family later in the day.

In Arabic, she added with humor: “Unfortunately, this time I watched from Aqaba due to a rest period for minor treatment for back pain—after apparently joining the Jordanian ‘disc club’. My darling Iman has been wonderfully helpful.”
Queen Rania’s post received thousands of well wishes from Jordanians, who wished her a speedy recovery and expressed appreciation for her continued warmth and engagement even while away from the ceremony.

King bestows medals on distinguished Jordanians on 79th Independence Day
His Majesty King Abdullah II on Sunday bestowed Royal medals upon a number of distinguished Jordanian individuals and leading national institutions in recognition of their significant contributions and services to the nation and its people.
The investiture ceremony, held at Al Husseiniya Palace to mark the 79th anniversary of Jordan’s independence, was attended by Their Royal Highnesses Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II and Prince Hashem bin Abdullah II, as well as a number of Royal family members, and senior officials and officers.
The ceremony highlighted the achievements of Jordanians who have distinguished themselves in different sectors, including filmmaking, media, economics, vocational training, literature, education, technology, culture, medicine, science, and sports.
PM Hassan: Jordan marks 79 years of independence with eyes on a bright future
Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan affirmed on Saturday that Jordan’s vision remains focused on a bright future, as the Kingdom marked its 79th Independence Day.
Delivering a speech during the national celebration, Hassan opened with a tribute to His Majesty King Abdullah II, saying: “To His Majesty, the guardian of our independence and the builder of modern Jordan, I extend my highest congratulations and best wishes.”
The prime minister also saluted the Jordan Armed Forces and security agencies, stating: “I commend the brave men and women of our military and security services who safeguard Jordan’s pride and security.”
He emphasized that Independence Day is a celebration of Jordan’s national identity — one shaped by the dedication of its citizens and a legacy built on honor and sacrifice.
“We celebrate a strong Jordan — firm in its principles, resilient in its leadership, united in its people, and true to itself and its Arab identity,” Hassan said.
He stressed that “Palestine will always remain a national cause, an unwavering position, as it embodies the dignity and pride of the Arab world.”
Reflecting on the Kingdom’s history, Hassan noted that “over 79 years, Jordan has confronted regional chaos and wars with wisdom, diplomacy, and moderation. Despite limited resources, we focused on human development, dignity, and advancement — guided by the unwavering faith of Jordanians in their leadership, which has led them to safe shores.”

US Secretary of State Rubio congratulates Jordan on 79th Independence Day
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended warm congratulations to His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people on the occasion of Jordan’s 79th Independence Day, reaffirming the strength of the US-Jordan partnership and Jordan’s key role in the region.
In a statement released on Sunday, Rubio praised the longstanding relationship between the US and Jordan, describing it as a strategic partnership built on shared goals for a more peaceful and secure Middle East.
“On behalf of the United States of America, I extend my best wishes and heartfelt congratulations to His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Jordanian people on the 79th anniversary of Jordan’s independence,” Rubio said.

King, Crown Prince receive cables on 79th Independence Day
His Majesty King Abdullah II has received cables from leaders of Arab, Muslim, and friendly countries on Jordan’s 79th Independence Day, which falls on 25 May.
His Majesty also received cables from senior officials and officers, as well as representatives of civil society organisations.
His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II received similar cables on the occasion.
