Malaysian NGO defends Jordan's role in Gaza humanitarian efforts
The Karisma Humanitarian Outreach Mission (KHOM), a Malaysian NGO, has issued a strong statement defending Jordan against recent claims made by a London-based website, which alleged that the Jordanian government profited from delivering humanitarian aid into Gaza.
In an official statement signed by KHOM Chairlady and Mission Director Nik Marina Hussin, the organization categorically rejected the accusation as "misleading and inaccurate." The NGO emphasized that Jordan has been a key partner in its humanitarian efforts and has never demanded payment for facilitating aid operations.
"Jordan has never charged KHOM for the airdrop. In fact, the airdrop mission was fully funded by the Jordanian authorities themselves, and KHOM is grateful for their generous support and collaboration," the statement read.
KHOM highlighted its direct collaboration with the Jordanian authorities, particularly during Malaysia's first and only airdrop into Gaza in April 2024. The mission included 480 food boxes, 200 hygiene kits, and 200 tins of baby milk. The food boxes were airdropped by the Royal Jordanian Air Force, while the other supplies were delivered via land routes.
Addressing the logistical costs associated with land deliveries, KHOM clarified that the expenses incurred—such as truck hire, fuel, border clearance, and driver support—are standard operational costs borne by humanitarian organizations, not fees charged by Jordan for profit.
“These fees are not charges by the Jordanian authorities for profit, but rather the actual operational costs needed to ensure aid reaches those in desperate need,” the statement said. “Aid trucks cannot run without fuel, drivers, and safe access.”
Once aid is packed and handed over to the Jordan Hashemite Charity Organization (JHCO), the responsibility for transportation and distribution shifts entirely to Jordanian authorities, including the Jordanian Armed Forces - Arab Army (JAF), KHOM added.
The NGO urged the public and media to exercise caution when encountering unverified claims. “Spreading inaccurate information only undermines the tireless efforts of NGOs, governments, and volunteers who work day and night to deliver lifesaving aid into one of the world’s most challenging conflict zones.”
KHOM reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, and expressed unwavering support for Jordan’s humanitarian role in Gaza.
