Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and U.S. President Donald Trump held a significant phone call on Monday, focusing on strengthening bilateral relations and addressing pressing regional and global issues, according to statements from both the Turkish Presidency and US sources.

The conversation covered topics including the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the war in Ukraine, developments in Syria, and defense cooperation.

In a statement released by Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications, President Erdogan emphasized the importance of advancing Türkiye-US cooperation with a “solidarity-oriented, result-oriented, and sincere manner.”

He expressed Türkiye’s readiness to support efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza, where he described the crisis as having reached a “grave level.”

Erdogan also reiterated Türkiye’s support for Trump’s initiatives to end the Russia-Ukraine conflict, highlighting Ankara’s role as a mediator in the ongoing war.

The Turkish leader extended an invitation to President Trump to visit Türkiye.

In response, Trump, posting on Truth Social, described the conversation as “very good and productive,” noting that Erdogan had also been invited to Washington.

The US president confirmed that the call addressed the war in Ukraine, developments in Syria, and the situation in Gaza, among other topics.

Erdogan discussed the urgency of concluding the F-16 procurement process and reinstating Türkiye’s participation in the F-35 program, issues that have been points of contention in US-Türkiye relations.

Erdogan also called for the removal of sanctions imposed on Türkiye under the Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA), arguing that lifting these restrictions is critical to deepening bilateral defense ties.
