GTA 6 release delayed to May 2026, Rockstar confirms
Rockstar officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6).
The game is set to launch on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, as confirmed in a recent post by the studio on X.
It was initially slated for a Fall 2025 release window.
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected…the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception,” Rockstar Games said in a statement on their X account.
“We hope you understand than we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
The statement aligns with comments from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick, who emphasized Rockstar’s pursuit of “perfection” as a driving force behind the game’s development timeline.
There have been nearly 500 days of near-silence from Rockstar since the first trailer, with speculation about a second trailer still unfulfilled.
