King bestows Silver Jubilee Medal on Princess Basma bint Talal
His Majesty King Abdullah II has awarded Princess Basma bint Talal the Silver Jubilee Medal in recognition of her decades of service to Jordan in public service, humanitarian work, and national development.
After the ceremony, Princess Basma shared a heartfelt message, reflecting on the personal significance of the honor and the difficult regional context in which it was received.
“During these painful times, as we witness the daily killing, destruction, and suffering of our people in Gaza and the occupied Palestinian territories — including their denial of food, shelter, and medical care — we are overwhelmed with sorrow and grief,” she wrote.
Acknowledging the emotional contrast between joy and grief, she said gratitude is what helps people find strength and hope amid hardship.
“This blessing strengthens our faith, patience, and hope, and gives us the resilience to endure and carry on,” she noted.
Princess Basma described the medal as a deeply personal honor, not only for its national symbolism, but also because it was presented directly by King Abdullah — whom she praised for steering Jordan through ongoing challenges.
“Receiving the medal from His Majesty filled me with pride and love. It reminded me of the honor of belonging to the larger Jordanian family,” she said.
She also expressed deep loyalty to the Hashemite family and her late brother, King Hussein, while reaffirming her trust in King Abdullah’s leadership.
“Your Silver Jubilee marks a bright milestone in the journey of resilience, nation-building, and dedication. I pray to continue serving our country under your guidance, doing all I can with sincerity and faith.”
Princess Basma has long championed causes such as education, women’s empowerment, and health across Jordan and the region. The medal was awarded as part of the Kingdom’s celebration of King Abdullah’s 25 years on the throne.
