Fourth round of US-Iran nuclear talks to be held on May 3: Reports
The US and Iran are set to hold their fourth round of nuclear talks on May 3 in Europe, according to a report from Axios on Saturday, citing a US official.
The official described the third round of discussions, held in Oman, as “positive and productive.” The talks, which lasted over four hours, involved both direct and indirect engagement, with the official noting that while “much remains to be done,” progress had been made toward reaching a deal.
Omani Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi had earlier announced that Washington and Tehran would reconvene on May 3. While the US official confirmed the location would be in Europe, the country hosting the meeting was not disclosed. The second round of talks took place in Rome on April 19.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that this latest round of discussions is "more serious than before" and that both sides have “gradually entered more technical details” regarding nuclear issues. He added that the negotiations have “given them hope that progress can be made,” though he emphasized the Iranian side is “hopeful, but extremely cautious.”
US President Donald Trump has previously threatened military action against Iran if a new agreement is not reached to replace the 2015 nuclear deal brokered during the Obama administration. Trump has repeatedly stressed that Iran “cannot have a nuclear weapon.”
