Dusty weather to sweep Jordan; warnings issued
Significant weather changes are expected in Jordan beginning Sunday and continuing for several days, according to ArabiaWeather.
Jordan is set to be affected by multiple Khamsin low-pressure systems, bringing dry, dusty conditions and a notable rise in temperatures.
On Saturday night, conditions will remain relatively cold across most regions, with clear skies and a noticeable chill, especially in the late-night and early morning hours. The expected high temperature in the capital, Amman, will range between 12°C and 13°C.
On Sunday, a Khamsin low-pressure system accompanied by a warmer-than-usual air mass will gradually impact the Kingdom. Temperatures are forecast to rise significantly, with daytime highs jumping 8–9°C above Saturday’s levels. The weather will turn warm in most areas and relatively hot to hot in the Jordan Valley and Aqaba.
Southwesterly winds are expected to strengthen by midday and afternoon, stirring dust of varying intensity. Medium to high-level clouds may appear, and light, muddy rainfall is possible in some areas during the afternoon hours.
Sunday Recommendations:
- Be cautious of reduced visibility due to dust, especially on desert roads
- people with respiratory or eye conditions are advised to avoid prolonged outdoor exposure
Sunday night will see a rise in overnight temperatures compared to previous nights. The weather will remain dry and dusty overall, with scattered medium and high clouds. Winds will be moderate, shifting from southeasterly to southwesterly, and are expected to stir dust in several areas.
Dusty Conditions to Persist Monday and Intensify Tuesday
The Khamsin conditions will continue into Monday, with relatively hot, dry, and dusty weather persisting throughout the day. Medium and high clouds will appear, and moderate southwesterly winds will prevail.
Monday night will also bring warmer-than-usual conditions with dry and dusty air. Medium and high clouds will remain, and moderate westerly winds may become active in parts of the Kingdom.
By Tuesday, another Khamsin low-pressure system is expected to approach Jordan, accompanied by an even hotter air mass. Temperatures will rise further, exceeding seasonal averages by 9–11°C. The weather will turn relatively hot in all regions and notably hot in the Jordan Valley, the Dead Sea, and Aqaba, where temperatures may approach 40°C.
ArabiaWeather added that a denser wave of dust is being monitored, expected to move gradually toward Jordan from Egypt on Tuesday. Strong winds over Egypt and the Sinai Peninsula may carry thick dust into Jordan by late afternoon and evening, leading to increasingly dusty conditions and significantly reduced visibility.
Winds will be moderate southwesterlies during the day, becoming more active in the afternoon and evening, stirring widespread dust.
Tuesday Night Forecast:
- Khamasini conditions are expected to persist, with dry and heavily dusty weather across most areas
- Moderate southwesterly winds will continue, accompanied by active gusts likely to raise additional dust
Tuesday Weather Advisory:
- Be cautious of reduced visibility due to thick dust waves, especially in the afternoon and evening.
- Individuals with respiratory or allergy conditions should limit outdoor activity and wear protective masks when necessary
- Avoid prolonged direct sun exposure
- Do not leave children unattended in closed vehicles, even briefly
- Avoid storing flammable materials inside vehicles
