Key terms of Kurdish institutions integration deal

The Syrian Presidency announced yesterday the signing of an agreement to integrate the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) into the institutions of the Syrian Arab Republic, reaffirming the unity of Syrian territory and rejecting any attempts at division, according to the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

The agreement was signed on Monday by Syrian President Ahmed Al-Sharaa and SDF commander Mazloum Abdi.

The Syrian Presidency released a statement signed by both parties, detailing the key points of the agreement. It calls for the integration of all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria into the Syrian state's administration, including border crossings, airports, and oil and gas fields.

Agreement key points:

  • Ensuring the rights of all Syrians to participate in the political process and in all state institutions, based on competence, regardless of their religious or ethnic backgrounds.
  • Acknowledging the Kurdish community as an integral part of Syria and guaranteeing their citizenship and constitutional rights.
  • A ceasefire across all Syrian territories.
  • Integration of all civil and military institutions in northeastern Syria into the Syrian state administration, including border crossings, airports, and oil and gas fields.
  • Ensuring the return of displaced Syrians to their towns and villages, with protection provided by the Syrian state.
  • Supporting the Syrian state in its fight against remnants of the Assad regime and all threats to its security and unity.
  • Rejecting calls for division, hate speech, and attempts to sow discord between different Syrian communities.
  • The executive committees are tasked with implementing the agreement by the end of the year.
