The "Israeli" army has withdrawn from southern Lebanese villages on Feb. 18, 2025, but it remains stationed at five positions, according to a Lebanese security source. This comes after the deadline for their withdrawal expired under a truce deal with Hezbollah.
In a statement, President Aoun urged the countries responsible for overseeing the ceasefire, especially the United States, to apply pressure on "Israel" to ensure their complete withdrawal under the terms of the agreement.
He further highlighted that lasting stability along Lebanon’s southern border can only be achieved by the removal of occupying troops from the remaining hilltops they control, as well as the release of Lebanese prisoners still held in detention.
Additionally, President Aoun noted that the Lebanese army has been deployed in towns vacated by the occupying forces and is prepared to take a strong position along the southern border to ensure peace and security.
