Kuwait foils major cyberattack on banks, telecom sector

Kuwait announced on Thursday that it had successfully thwarted major cyberattacks aimed at the country’s telecommunications infrastructure and banking sector, Anadolu Agency reported.

The Kuwaiti Interior Ministry revealed that an international cybercrime network, composed of Chinese nationals, was responsible for the attacks.

Authorities stated that the suspects behind the cyber crimes have been apprehended, emphasizing the government’s ongoing efforts to bolster cybersecurity and protect national security. However, officials did not disclose the exact number of individuals taken into custody.

According to the ministry, the attackers employed advanced electronic tools and sophisticated data analysis methods to distribute fraudulent messages. These messages impersonated banks and telecom companies in an attempt to deceive recipients and execute phishing scams.

The arrested individuals have been handed over to the relevant authorities for legal proceedings.
