Trouble in paradise? Trump shares interview criticizing Netanyahu
US President-elect Donald Trump stirred controversy after sharing an interview on his Truth Social platform that featured Jeffrey David, an American economist and public policy analyst who is also a professor at Columbia University.
In the interview, David stated that "Israeli" Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu played a significant role in pushing the US into prolonged conflicts in the Middle East.
David asserted that the idea for the 2003 Iraq invasion originated with Netanyahu, who, since 1995, had advocated a theory suggesting that the only way to eliminate groups like Hamas and Hezbollah was to overthrow the governments supporting them—specifically naming Iraq, Syria, and Iran.
“Netanyahu is still trying to get us to fight Iran to this day, even this week,” David stated during the interview.
In a scathing remark, he called Netanyahu a "deep, dark son of a b****," adding, “He got us into endless wars.”
Trump’s decision to amplify David’s criticism has sparked debate, with some praising the President-elect for highlighting contentious foreign policy issues and others questioning the implications of such remarks on US-"Israel" relations.
