Mass grave found in Aleppo; may contain thousands of bodies, Syria police says

Authorities in Aleppo have uncovered a mass grave containing hundreds of bodies following a tip-off from a local resident, according to statements by the –new– Ministry of Interior cited by the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA).

Aleppo Police Chief Brig. Gen. Ahmad Latouf visited the site to assess the situation. Civil defense teams were also dispatched to the location.

The ministry confirmed that efforts would soon begin to identify the bodies through DNA testing.

A senior officer in Aleppo's police later told Al-Jazeera that initial examinations suggest the grave could contain thousands of bodies.
