Report reveals hundreds of senior “Israeli” officers leaving military
Approximately 500 “Israeli” officers holding the rank of major have left the military since mid-2024, Hebrew news outlet “Israel Hayom” has reported.
Described as a “mass exodus”, the voluntary departure of these senior officers has caught the Israeli Occupation Forces’ (IOF) leadership off guard and threatened its readiness during the ongoing active combat operations.
Current trends compared with previous years suggest that 2025 will see even more departures by senior officers.
Multiple reasons are cited for this. Other than combat fatigue, senior officers in the IOF receive standard salaries and minimal benefits with no substantial bonuses and family support services in comparison with reservists.
The “Israeli” military said this poses a strategic threat to the security of “Israel”, which could potentially cause long-term damage.
"This isn't just about numbers," a senior officer said, quoted by “Israel Hayom”.
"Wars aren't won with equipment alone. They're won by the quality of personnel operating that equipment. We're at risk of losing our most experienced leaders exactly when we need them most."
